Standardized Patients (SPs) are individuals trained to portray the role of actual patients by enacting faculty-defined clinical scenarios for teaching and assessment purposes. SPs must accurately and consistently simulate the history, personality, physical findings, emotional structure, and response pattern of a patient. They utilize their own body to evaluate learners on correct basic physical examination techniques, along with doctor-patient communication and other clinical skills in a simulated clinical environment. SPs report to the Program Director and work closely with the SP Educators to ensure learners obtain, apply, and practice clinical skills in a non-threatening, standardized, positive encounter. This position is considered part-time/as needed, and individuals are scheduled based on the case implementation component of the required curriculum as determined by the Course Directors.
