About The Position

The Standardized Participant (SP) Coordinator / Simulation Educator is responsible for the recruitment, training, scheduling, and quality management of Standardized Participants used in healthcare simulation–based education. The position supports simulation curriculum development, facilitates simulation-based learning experiences, and collaborates with faculty to design and implement realistic clinical scenarios that support healthcare workforce preparation. The role ensures that SP methodology meets educational standards and follows best practices outlined by the Association of Standardized Patient Educators while supporting interprofessional healthcare training programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or Higher in health-related field
  • Experience with healthcare simulation methodology.
  • 3 or more years of experience training or working with Standardized Participants.
  • Certification such as: Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE)
  • Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS)
  • RN or other health related license and certification (CHSE)

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train, and retain a diverse pool of Standardized Participants (SPs).
  • Develop SP training materials including case scripts, portrayal guides, and evaluation rubrics.
  • Conduct SP training sessions to ensure standardized and reliable case portrayal.
  • Coordinate scheduling and assignments of SPs for simulation events and assessments.
  • Monitor SP performance and provide coaching to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Maintain SP program records, payroll documentation, and performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design and implement simulation scenarios using SPs.
  • Facilitate simulation sessions including pre-briefing, scenario management, and debriefing.
  • Assist faculty with development of clinical communication, assessment, and clinical reasoning scenarios.
  • Support Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) and other competency-based assessments.
  • Ensure learning objectives align with program and accreditation standards.
  • Coordinate SP use across healthcare disciplines including nursing, EMS, respiratory therapy, and allied health.
  • Prepare simulation spaces, equipment, and case materials in collaboration with simulation operations staff.
  • Support immersive learning environments such as clinical rooms, apartments, or prehospital simulation settings.
  • Assist with simulation technology including audio/video capture and observation systems.
  • Evaluate SP program effectiveness and learner outcomes.
  • Assist with development of assessment tools for communication, clinical reasoning, and patient interaction.
  • Collect and analyze program evaluation data.
  • Ensure consistency and fidelity in simulation-based educational activities.
  • Participate in curriculum development with faculty and program leadership.
  • Collaborate with community healthcare partners to support workforce training.
  • Contribute to simulation research, scholarship, and professional presentations when appropriate.
  • Assist with accreditation preparation and reporting.
  • Provide work directions to standardized participants and students.
