About The Position

This position involves sewing precut fabric or leather according to specific sewing diagrams and requirements. The role includes operating various sewing machines, such as single needle, top stitch, and zipper machines, and ensuring the correct use of materials like thread, zippers, and needles based on style and cover material. The sewer is responsible for maintaining quality, adjusting machine settings, and reporting any issues to a supervisor. Additionally, this role may involve training on new styles and potentially training other sewers.

Requirements

Ability to sew precut fabric or leather according to sewing diagram
Proficiency in single needle and top stitch sewing
Experience sewing welt cord or tubing
Ability to read traveler for correct law label, thread and zipper color
Experience operating a zipper machine
Skill in skiving leather with a leather skiver
Knowledge of changing needles to match cover type
Ability to adjust seam allowance according to cover material
Understanding of changing thread and bobbins according to cover material
Ability to adjust machine tension
Willingness to report problems or issues to supervisor
Ability to inspect own work and the work of others for quality
Ability to train with a product development representative on new styles
Potential to train other sewers on new styles

Responsibilities

Sews precut fabric or leather according to sewing diagram
Performs single needle and top stitch sewing as required
Sews welt cord or tubing as required by style
Reads traveler for correct law label, thread and zipper color
Uses zipper machine as required by style
Skives the leather with the leather skiver as needed per style
Changes needles on the machine to match the type of cover they are using
Adjusts seam allowance according to the cover material
Changes thread and bobbins according to the cover material
Adjusts tension as needed
Reports any problems or issues to supervisor
Inspects the quality of his/her work and the work of others as required
Trains with a product development representative on new styles (Betas) and reports
May on occasion train other sewers on the new styles when they are released to production
