About The Position

This position works and assists the Victoria Fine Arts Center Manager or Victoria Representative on duty with ongoing events, rentals, and school functions, as well as daily upkeep and maintenance of the VISD Fine Arts Center. The role involves setting the stage with orchestra shells, chairs, music stands, or other equipment, assisting with seating for events, selling tickets in the box office, and working the concession stand. Responsibilities also include assisting with technical operations such as lights, sound, and rigging, maintaining the building's appearance through cleaning, and managing entertainment-related elements like staging, video, sound, and lighting components. Additionally, the role involves ensuring props are affixed properly, assisting with loading and unloading materials, and disassembling and storing scenery and set pieces. The Stagehand/Band Tutor will also be responsible for opening and closing curtains, participating in staff development, VFAC meetings, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Some experience working with theatrical productions preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
  • Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building/grounds maintenance
  • Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Physical ability to perform duties (Lifting up to 40 pounds required)
  • Professional appearance and demeanor

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for setting the stage with orchestra shells, chairs, music stands or other equipment.
  • Responsible for assisting with seating for events.
  • Responsible for selling tickets in the box office and working concession stand.
  • Responsible for assisting with technical operations such as lights, sound, and rigging.
  • Responsible for sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning and maintaining the appearance of the building.
  • Responsible for setup, maintenance and striking of entertainment related elements including staging, video, sound and lighting components.
  • Responsible for ensuring that props are affixed properly.
  • Responsible for assisting with the loading and unloading of props and materials from trucks.
  • Responsible for disassembling scenery and other set pieces, ensuring their proper storage.
  • Responsible for opening and closing curtains.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in any VFAC meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
