About The Position

The Staffing Specialist supports the full-cycle recruitment strategy for Aztec Shops on the SDSU Main Campus. This role is responsible for driving recruiting initiatives, identifying best practices to improve efficiency, enhancing the candidate experience, and supporting the organization's workforce planning goals. The Staffing Specialist partners closely with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and recruit qualified candidates for open positions. Responsibilities include creating job requisitions, sourcing and screening candidates, conducting phone interviews, coordinating interviews, tracking recruiting metrics, preparing hiring reports, extending offers, and facilitating a seamless onboarding process. This position also collaborates with the Marketing team to promote employment opportunities, strengthen the organization's employer brand, and engage candidates through social media and community outreach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • At least two (2) years general recruiting experience and at least one (1) year of recruiting experience within a hospitality, retail, food service, or similarly fast-paced customer service environment.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience using Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and recruitment technologies preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English fluently.
  • Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives.
  • Requires the ability to read and comprehend a variety of informational documentation, procedures and correspondence.
  • Requires the ability to write business correspondence with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms.
  • Requires the ability to effectively communicate with customers and employees.
  • Requires the ability to prepare and analyze numerical figures, create and interpret spreadsheets.

  • Must be able to move, lift or carry heavy objects or materials up to 15 pounds.
  • Ability to walk for extended periods within a stadium environment in inclement weather which may frequently require ascending/descending stairs.
  • Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision for extensive reading and document interpretation.
  • The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act pursuant to California Penal Code Section 11166.5 .

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leadership to support the organization's talent acquisition strategy, workforce planning, recruiting, and retention initiatives for the Aztec Shops Main Campus and partner with hiring managers to develop effective recruiting strategies that meet current and future staffing needs.
  • Manage the full-cycle recruitment process for hourly and student positions, including job requisition creation, sourcing, screening, interviewing, candidate assessment, offer management, and onboarding coordination.
  • Source qualified candidates using a variety of recruiting methods, including online job boards, social media platforms, employee referrals, networking, and community outreach.
  • Conduct phone screens and initial candidate assessments to evaluate qualifications and cultural fit before presenting candidates to hiring managers.
  • Coordinate and participate in interviews for full-time positions and provide guidance to hiring managers throughout the selection process and lead all student recruitment initiatives, including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts on the main campus.
  • Prepare and extend verbal employment offers and manage all electronic offer documentation.
  • Process new hires within the Applicant Tracking System (ATS), initiate background checks, assist with enrolling employees in New Hire Orientation, and ensure completion of all required pre-employment training, including but not limited to Responsible Beverage Service (RBS), Food Handler Certification, Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (SHPT), and other required compliance training.
  • Analyze recruiting metrics and prepare weekly and monthly reports, including open position reports, time-to-fill metrics, new hire reports, sourcing effectiveness, and other talent acquisition performance measures.
  • Monitor recruiting performance and recommend process improvements that enhance recruiting efficiency and improve the candidate and hiring manager experience.
  • Develop and implement multi-channel recruiting strategies to achieve hiring goals.
  • Post and maintain job advertisements on recruiting platforms including, but not limited to, LinkedIn, Indeed, Handshake, and other recruitment sources.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to promote employment opportunities, strengthen the company's employer brand, and develop engaging recruitment marketing campaigns.
  • Assist with developing, documenting, and maintaining hiring Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Main Campus in alignment with corporate recruiting policies and procedures.
  • Partner with the Senior Staffing Specialist at Snapdragon Stadium to leverage recruiting resources, coordinate student hiring initiatives, and participate in outreach activities, including career fairs and recruiting events at SDSU and other local colleges and universities.
  • Manage 90-day new hire check-ins, analyze employee feedback, and partner with leadership to identify opportunities for improving employee retention and engagement.
  • Manage recruiting expenditures by coordinating job posting sponsorships and advertising budgets for assigned positions.
  • Train hiring managers on effective, inclusive, and legally compliant interviewing techniques, behavioral interviewing practices, appropriate interview questions, and current recruiting best practices using established training materials.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations to ensure compliant recruiting and hiring practices while minimizing organizational risk.
  • Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, and federal, state, and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, and health.
