About The Position

This role is more than a job. It involves maintaining continuous staffing oversight for critical care, emergency, and trauma-designated units to ensure the support of UMC’s Level 1 Trauma Center operations. The Staffing Coordinator will coordinate immediate staffing adjustments in response to trauma activations, high-acuity patient surges, and mass casualty events. This position collaborates with Nursing Administration and House Supervisors to support patient throughput and quality outcomes, ensuring staffing assignments meet competency, certification, and trauma-specific requirements. The role also monitors overtime and agency utilization for efficient resource management, facilitates staff redeployment based on census and acuity, and supports onboarding coordination and scheduling for new hires and supplemental staff. Additionally, the Staffing Coordinator assists with staffing contingency planning aligned with emergency preparedness protocols, maintains accurate documentation for audits and regulatory readiness, and participates in process improvement initiatives to enhance staffing efficiency and patient safety. This position performs other duties as assigned in support of 24/7 hospital operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 2 years of staffing, scheduling, healthcare operations, or administrative experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred
  • Experience in a hospital or acute care setting preferred
  • Experience in staffing coordination within a high-acuity or trauma setting
  • Familiarity with workforce management or scheduling systems (e.g., Kronos, API, Workday)
  • Knowledge of hospital staffing practices, unit workflows, and patient care environments
