About The Position

Clover is looking for a Staff Web Engineer with deep expertise in front end architecture to join our Web Platform team. This team’s primary objective is to provide Clover web engineers with exceptional development experience across our web platforms while supporting the large-scale expansion of our engineering teams. With hundreds of engineers building web experiences across 4 continents, Clover’s patterns and tooling for web development are critical to its ability to effectively deliver business value to our customers. As a member of the Web Platform Team focusing on App Infrastructure, you will own the design, implementation, support and improvement of crucial foundational libraries, architectural patterns and self-service tools leveraged actively by web engineers across the company.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a heavy focus on web platforms, web architecture, and full-stack runtime systems.
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably Computer Science or Engineering) or equivalent practical technical education.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining large-scale web applications, web infrastructure, or shared developer platform tools.
  • Hands-on background delivering web UIs as a feature developer alongside deep knowledge of browser execution models, JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystems, and HTML/CSS standards.
  • Strong proficiency with version control and automated CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Enterprise, Jenkins, or similar).
  • Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills with a track record of cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end web architectures, micro-frontends, API integrations, and server-side rendering (SSR) implementations optimized for high traffic, low latency, and high availability.
  • Partner with product management and business leaders to define long-term technical direction, evaluate emerging technologies, and guide multi-quarter roadmaps.
  • Establish coding standards, testing frameworks, CI/CD practices, continuous performance monitoring, and web accessibility (WCAG) guidelines across the organization.
  • Provide technical leadership and sponsorship for senior, mid-level, and junior engineers. Lead design and code reviews to elevate team technical capabilities.
  • Hands-on development of core platforms, critical SDKs, complex web interfaces, and high-risk technical migrations.
