About The Position

Salesforce is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to take ownership of Android accessibility across the Slack application. This role involves addressing issues from Slack Kit component-level fixes to developing platform-wide strategies for screen readers, testing, and compliance. The engineer will be the primary technical lead for Android accessibility, collaborating closely with the iOS/mobile accessibility team, design systems, and feature teams to ensure Slack is usable for everyone.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Android engineering experience, including Kotlin and Jetpack Compose in a team environment.
  • Hands-on expertise with Android accessibility APIs and TalkBack behavior.
  • Experience building or maintaining accessibility testing infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with accessibility compliance frameworks (e.g., WCAG, VPAT) and experience driving compliance work end-to-end.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working regularly with design systems, iOS, and feature teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with design systems/component libraries and accessibility standards.
  • Familiarity with third-party accessibility auditing tools or building custom static-analysis/scanning tools.
  • Public speaking or writing on accessibility topics.
  • Experience using Slack and a keen interest in making it better.

Responsibilities

  • Drive accessibility for Slack Kit Compose components, including auditing and fixing issues, and building/maintaining snapshot and automated accessibility testing.
  • Diagnose and fix TalkBack/framework issues, generalizing fixes into shared utilities for other teams.
  • Own and evolve Android accessibility test suites and infrastructure, incorporating custom tooling and third-party integrations for automated UI-test coverage.
  • Provide accessibility guidance to feature teams on complex UI work, covering labeling, focus order, state announcements, and audible feedback for interactive actions.
  • Lead VPAT compliance efforts, including triaging and resolving tickets, grouping recurring issues into epics, and documenting Slack’s compliance posture.
  • Plan and execute accessibility testing across major features and partner with QA vendors for regression testing.
  • Represent Android in cross-platform mobile accessibility planning, coordinating with iOS counterparts, design systems, and feature teams.
  • Mentor Android engineers on accessibility best practices, conduct onboarding sessions, and share knowledge broadly through documentation, newsletters, and external talks.
