The physician has primary responsibility for admissions and patients under their care, with activities potentially supervised and coordinated with residents, mid-level practitioners, or students when present. The physician provides patients and families with medical education and counseling focused on evidence-based, outcomes-focused, veteran-centric care, including discussion of goals of care and code status when indicated. The role also promotes contemporary patient-care programs and periodically reviews and updates them in light of current, broadly accepted practices. The physician must follow Medical Staff bylaws and I CARE values and practice within current privileges.
