Staff Systems Engineer, Strategic Defense

Anduril•Colorado Springs, CO

About The Position

Anduril Industries is seeking a growth-minded Systems Engineer for its Strategic Defense team, based in Washington, DC, or Huntsville, AL. The role defines architecture and capabilities for next-generation integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) systems, with a focus on Army air and missile defense architectures and the System of Systems sensor integration, track fusion, and discrimination that support them. The engineer ensures requirements and architecture traceability through testing and evaluations that are critical to fire-control certification, and translates operational needs from the Army and joint IAMD community into executable system architecture. The role involves collaboration with internal programs and external Army and joint IAMD stakeholders to develop future architectures and capabilities. The engineer develops and maintains systems-engineering artifacts, many of which are contractual deliverables, and demonstrates them at stakeholder meetings and events. The position leads requirements and architecture products with traceability and configuration management across related fire-control programs, and owns architecture and interface definitions for integrating Anduril fire-control capabilities across sensors, battle management and command and control, fire control, and effectors. The engineer defines and manages System of Systems mission threads and interfaces across multi-sensor architectures, integrates Army and joint sensor networks into fire-control-quality track pictures, and builds a deep understanding of Anduril platforms, autonomy, simulation, and perception products through systems-engineering artifacts.

Requirements

  • Currently possess and be able to maintain an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • B.S. in aerospace, mechanical, applied physics, computer science, or a similar engineering or technical field, or more than 10 years of integrated air and missile defense experience.
  • 12+ years of Systems Engineering experience across the life cycle.
  • Demonstrated IAMD kill-chain domain experience spanning sensors, battle management and C2, fire control, and effectors, including Army systems such as IBCS, Patriot/PAC-3 MSE, LTAMDS, Sentinel A4, THAAD, IFPC, M-SHORAD, C-RAM, or AN/TPY-2, and integration with joint C2 such as C2BMC and Aegis.
  • Demonstrated System of Systems tracking and discrimination experience, including multi-sensor integration, track initiation and correlation, track and data fusion across dissimilar sensors, and target classification, identification, and discrimination.
  • Understanding of how sensor performance drives fire-control-quality track formation and engagement decisions, including track accuracy and covariance, correlation and decorrelation, combat ID, IFF, and NCTI.
  • Working knowledge of how external cueing sources, including space-based missile warning and tracking, feed terrestrial sensor and fire-control chains.
  • Understanding of fire-control systems and required safety and hazard-mitigation practices.
  • Experience developing model-based systems-engineering artifacts, such as Operational Viewpoints, System Viewpoints, activity diagrams, use-case diagrams, BDDs, IBDs, and parametric diagrams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience modeling weapon systems, sensor and tracker performance, IAMD engagement sequences, and air and missile threat scenarios using EADSIM, AFSIM, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated experience leading System of Systems capability development for complex kill chains.
  • Experience with test planning, execution, and data analysis for complex systems.
  • Experience supporting Army and joint IAMD organizations such as Army SMDC, RCCTO, PEO Missiles and Space, the Air and Missile Defense Cross-Functional Team, MDA, or JIAMDO; experience with space mission organizations such as Space Systems Command, SSDP, or SDA is a plus.
  • Familiarity with joint data links and interoperability standards used across Army and joint IAMD, including Link 16, JREAP, IBCS IFCN, VMF, FAAD C2 interfaces, and OMS/UCI.
  • Experience with joint engagement coordination and composite tracking across Army and joint fire-control networks, including engagement-quality track handoff and cross-sensor correlation.
  • Experience with discrimination and classification algorithm performance in ballistic and air-breathing threat environments, including debris and object classification, kinematic and feature-aided discrimination, and non-cooperative target identification.
  • Proficiency with MathWorks products such as MATLAB and SIMULINK.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with internal program stakeholders and external customers across the Army and joint IAMD community.
  • Participate in concept generation and stakeholder coordination to develop future architecture and capabilities for strategic-defense kill chains.
  • Develop stakeholder-driven artifacts and coordinate with functional areas to ensure they are complete and accurate.
  • Demonstrate systems-engineering artifacts, including contractual deliverables, at stakeholder meetings and events.
  • Lead development of requirements and architecture products that provide full traceability and configuration management across related fire-control programs.
  • Own architecture and interface definitions for integrating Anduril fire-control capabilities across sensors, battle management and C2, fire control, and effectors.
  • Define and manage System of Systems mission threads and interfaces across multi-sensor architectures, including track initiation and correlation, track fusion, and target classification, identification, and discrimination through engagement.
  • Integrate Army and joint radar, EO/IR, and passive RF sensor networks into fire-control-quality track pictures, including external cueing sources such as space-based missile warning.
  • Create and maintain systems-engineering artifacts that demonstrate the value of Anduril platforms, autonomy, simulation, and perception products.
  • Support requirements and architecture traceability through test and evaluation activities critical to fire-control certification.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, described as comprehensive and competitive and available at little to no cost to employees.
