Staff System Engineer

About The Position

This role will provide best in class computer support for engineering design teams, offer technical direction and escalation for technologies maintained within the Linux compute space, and drive innovation and automation of computer solutions both internally and for our customers. Responsibilities include provisioning of systems both physical and virtual, driving configuration management through puppet, and monitoring the overall health of the Unix/Linux environment with an emphasis on proactive discovery of potential issues and continually working to improve the Linux compute environment through automation. The engineer will also propose and implement system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of systems and services.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years managing enterprise RedHat Unix/Linux solutions, preferably large scale
  • Experience ranging from three to five years in scripting skills (Shell, Python, etc.)
  • Experience ranging from three to five years with virtualization (vmware)
  • Experience ranging from two to three years with computer hardware/maintenance in the data center
  • Ability to lift 50lbs!

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting servers in the cloud preferred
  • Proficient with LDAP configuration and management
  • In-depth knowledge of Redhat Kickstart and configuration management tools (puppet preferred)
  • Proven skills in automating systems services and tasks to streamline service and ensure consistency
  • AI‑first mindset with experience applying AI to problem solving and solution development
  • FlexLm license management
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills and the ability to solve complex problems
  • Strong drive for continuous improvement and demonstrating a commitment to providing excellent customer service
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with revision control systems
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal)
