About The Position

The Staff Supported Home Program Staff is responsible for the day-to-day care and safety of the children/youth placed in a staff model home. They are responsible to create supportive relationships and understand and meet the needs of each child/youth placed in a staff model home while ensuring that all Ministry regulations and agency policies are followed. Staff Supported Home Program Staff work shifts in the home and are responsible for the care of children/youth 24/7. They work collaboratively with the Child Protection Worker/Child Youth Service Worker/Mobile Behaviour Treatment Team and all clinical supports available to the child/youth. This is a unionized position with CUPE Local 5319.

Requirements

  • Community college diploma or University degree in Child and Youth Care, Child and Youth Worker or related relevant discipline.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR level C.
  • Crisis training (CPI Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention, Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour - UMAB).
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience supporting children and youth with complex mental health and/or developmental diagnoses within a residential setting or similar.
  • Sound knowledge of available community resources.
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to practice a strength based, anti-oppressive and identity-affirming approach.
  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with internal and external resources and strong teamwork skills.
  • Sound knowledge on de-escalation and problem solving with children/youth in crisis.
  • Broad Spectrum Police Record Check required.
  • Able to work flexible hours which may include weekends, evenings and overnight.
  • Safe and reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license and minimum vehicle insurance as outlined by agency policies and procedures.
  • For designated bilingual positions, the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in both French and English is required; competency will be tested.
