About The Position

The Staff Support Assistant assists the clinical team with various duties that may include responding to patient needs, performing safety and comfort checks, assisting with patient mobility and meals, maintaining room tidiness, and providing basic hygiene assistance. The role also involves transporting patients, handling infectious waste and linen, adhering to infection control standards, cleaning equipment, and acting as a runner for necessary items. This position is per diem with varying hours as needed, typically between 8 AM and 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • Hourly pay rate determined by candidate's expertise and years of experience.
  • Must be able to respond promptly and courteously to patient call lights.
  • Must be able to perform patient rounds for safety and comfort.
  • Must be able to assist with patient positioning, lifting, transferring, and ambulation as directed by RN.
  • Must be able to assist with patient meals.
  • Must be able to maintain patient room tidiness and manage linen.
  • Must be able to assist patients with simple hygiene and comfort measures.
  • Must be able to transport patients as directed by RN.
  • Must be able to remain with patients continuously for safety when directed by RN.
  • Must handle infectious waste and linen according to hospital procedure.
  • Must adhere to infection control standards and hand washing techniques.
  • Must be able to clean and disinfect unit specific equipment.
  • Must be able to act as a runner to other departments for necessary items.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to the immediate needs of the patient by answering patient call lights promptly and courteously.
  • As directed, by RN, makes hourly or more frequent rounds on patients for safety, comfort, and meeting patients’ needs/requests.
  • Positions, lifts, transfers, and ambulates patients as directed by the RN.
  • Assist with setting up meals for patients and ordering meals.
  • Keeps patient rooms tidy, refreshes patient’s linen as need, removes unnecessary equipment and linen.
  • Assists patient with simple hygiene/comfort measures such as washing hands/face and oral care.
  • As directed by the RN, transports patient to other departments or when patient being discharge.
  • When directed by the RN, remains with the patient continuously for patient safety.
  • Handles infectious waste and linen according to established hospital procedure.
  • Adheres to proper infection control standards and hand washing techniques to avoid cross contamination.
  • Cleans and disinfects unit specific equipment.
  • "Runner" to other departments, when needed to obtain necessary items for patient care.
