About The Position

Walmart’s Payment System provides core payments systems to enable segment and technology partners in creating wonderful omni experiences with speed and leverage. We are a highly motivated group of engineers, working in an Payment area with agile methodology to solve sophisticated and high impact problems. Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in technical leadership roles.
  • Proven experience with React (and/or React Native) and backend technologies (Node.js, Java, Scala, APIs etc).
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure/AWS), CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Expertise in distributed system design, service-oriented architecture, and data integrity principles.
  • Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases, observability tools, and performance optimization.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to influence technical direction and drive AI adoption.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with financial systems or ledger processing.
  • Contributions to open-source or internal technical communities.
  • Familiarity with developer productivity tooling and platform engineering.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Experience with creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Drive architecture and design for complex, enterprise-scale systems ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Set the vision for the area in alignment with enterprise and industry standards.
  • Define coding standards, enforce best practices, and guide decisions for performance, security, and observability.
  • Champion AI-assisted tools (code generation, testing automation, intelligent monitoring) to improve velocity and quality.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate AI-driven capabilities into financial platforms and guide scalable implementation.
  • Own design, coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and operational excellence for mission-critical systems.
  • Partner with backend, frontend, and product teams to ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Coach engineers, foster innovation, and promote engineering excellence across distributed teams.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies (frontend, backend, AI) to evolve the stack and maintain competitive advantage.
