About The Position

Bluesight is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for its 340BCheck team to help develop and grow healthcare data products that support hospital and pharmacy operations. The team helps customers maintain 340B program compliance through automated auditing across multiple data sources, comprehensive documentation, and centralized communication and collaboration. This is a technical leadership role rather than a people-management role. The Staff Software Engineer will help set technical direction, make architectural decisions, elevate team execution, and drive initiatives that span multiple teams and domains. The position involves working across front-end, back-end, data, CI/CD, and infrastructure, and owning technical decisions for applications and services built with React, TypeScript, Python, FastAPI, Terraform, and CodeBuild. The role also partners with the Engineering Manager, technical leads, Product, QA, and adjacent engineering teams on execution, hiring signal, technical roadmaps, and technical guidance. Success is measured by strengthening the team's collective output through collaboration, mentoring, communication, and a service-oriented approach.

Requirements

  • At least 9 years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated depth across the full stack.
  • Deep specialization in one or more areas—front-end, back-end, or infrastructure—and working knowledge across the rest of the stack.
  • Track record of contributing to a team's technical direction and completing multi-month, cross-domain initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of relational database systems, particularly MySQL, and experience designing for scale.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Experience owning production services end-to-end and driving observability using DataDog.
  • Ability to influence architectural decisions across multiple teams, including long-term architectural direction.
  • Excellent communication skills, including explaining complex systems and tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders and building alignment across teams.
  • Leadership style rooted in service and collaboration, with success measured by the team's output.
  • Experience using generative AI in personal work and advising a team on AI-assisted workflows, including implementation and human-in-the-loop reviews.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and developing technical judgment in others.
  • Comfort co-leading technical direction alongside other senior technical voices.

Nice To Haves

  • Database administration experience, preferably with AWS Aurora MySQL.
  • Experience integrating Electronic Health Record (EHR) data into enterprise software.
  • Prior experience in regulated or compliance-driven healthcare or controlled-substance domains.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical direction for the 340BCheck team and design work spanning front-end, back-end, data, CI/CD, and infrastructure.
  • Own critical architectural decisions for applications and services, and guide the team on architectural choices.
  • Make technical and architectural decisions within the timelines required by the team.
  • Drive proactive refactoring to help 340BCheck scale.
  • Identify and resolve difficult technical problems, including debugging distributed systems and complex applications.
  • Improve the team's technical ability and collective execution.
  • Lead cross-team dependency management and coordinate efforts with Product, QA, and adjacent engineering teams.
  • Communicate large systems and technical tradeoffs to engineering and non-technical stakeholders, including during roadmap and planning discussions.
  • Drive improvements in team culture.
  • Partner with the Engineering Manager and technical leads on team execution, hiring signal, and the technical roadmap.
  • Provide technical guidance across the broader engineering team.
  • Mentor senior engineers and serve as an escalation point for difficult technical challenges.
  • Support the team through a service-oriented approach that helps improve others' work.

Benefits

  • Dedicated budget for training and career development.
  • Competitive salary.
  • Unlimited vacation days.
  • Generous insurance coverage.
  • 401(k) program with a company match.
  • Collaborative culture.
