About The Position

Anthropic is hiring a Staff+ Software Engineer to build products that help scientists and engineers use Claude to advance scientific discovery. The role involves identifying user needs and translating them into useful products, including making complex workflows such as modeling and simulation easy to run with Claude. The engineer will work with internal experts, industry partners, academic and industry users, product management, design, go-to-market, and research teams. The role offers substantial autonomy and technical leadership, with ownership of product design and delivery from initial concept through launch.

Requirements

  • Software engineering experience, including ownership of technical design and product delivery.
  • Experience building products from 0 to 1 in fast-moving environments and setting technical direction with limited precedent.
  • Experience building AI products and understanding how to turn model capabilities into applications people use.
  • Ability to think holistically about user experience and craft useful tools for scientists and engineers.
  • Comfort working directly with technical domain experts and customers and translating what is learned into products.
  • Enjoyment of solving difficult problems with researchers, scientists, and other engineers.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • A field of study relevant to the role, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • 8 or more years of software engineering experience, ideally including 2 or more years at Staff level or equivalent technical leadership.
  • Background in math, physics, materials science, mechanical or electrical engineering, or another science or engineering field.
  • Experience building software for scientists or engineers, such as CAD, simulation, electronics design, or scientific computing tools.
  • Experience as a founder or early engineer at a company building tools for scientists or engineers.
  • Experience working with research teams to improve domain-specific model capabilities, including evaluation frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Build products that unlock scientific discovery.
  • Partner with product management, design, and go-to-market teams to make complex workflows, such as modeling and simulation, simple to run with Claude.
  • Work closely with research teams to improve models’ capabilities in science and engineering.
  • Spend time with academic and industry users to determine what to build next.
  • Own technical design and delivery end to end, and ship products quickly rather than simply executing a specification.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Optional equity donation matching.
  • Generous vacation and parental leave.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Office space for collaborating with colleagues.
