About The Position

We are seeking a Staff, Software Engineer to join the International Omni Promotions and Rewards team. This role involves writing and reviewing code, leading design discussions, and making architectural decisions for the next generation of Walmart Promotions and Rewards. The team is currently in an active phase of platform modernization, redesigning and refactoring core systems. The team focuses on customer, associate, and business needs, working with Walmart International, which operates in numerous countries. The specific responsibilities include owning the technical direction for search micro-services such as Core Orchestration & Retrieval, Query-Understanding, Autocomplete, and Facet-Navigation. The role requires designing, building, and optimizing high-throughput, low-latency services, applying best practices for distributed systems, fault-tolerance, and concurrency. It also involves architecting complex query patterns with search engines for relevance, designing data and feature pipelines within the search ecosystem, and leading discovery and design for initiatives by partnering with product and data science teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions. Additionally, the role includes driving proof-of-concepts, validating ideas through prototypes, running A/B experiments, measuring impact on search quality and business metrics, mentoring engineers, fostering excellence, and owning production reliability including observability, on-call duties, and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs).

Requirements

  • 10-14 years of experience in software development using modern languages (Java, React, etc.)
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Java, Spring Boot.
  • Thorough understanding of Java and its core principles.
  • Own code quality and experience in writing extensive unit tests.
  • Familiarity with modern front-end build pipelines and tools.
  • Proven ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and frameworks quickly.
  • Ability to deliver in Agile method (SCRUM).
  • Excellent written communication and follow-up skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • OR 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies.
  • Experience integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices.
  • Experience following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.
