About The Position

Join Walmart as a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role drives the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles to enhance system resilience and agility. You will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to translate complex business needs into actionable solutions. Emphasizing engineering excellence and innovation, you will influence architectural decisions and continuously improve processes to support Walmart’s technology goals and operational success. The Global Governance and Security Risk Management team at Walmart develops secure, scalable platforms to protect the world’s largest retail ecosystem. Collaborating across business, product, and technology areas, the team integrates security into digital operations to support sustainable growth. Leveraging advanced technologies, including Generative AI, it enhances automation, risk mitigation, and adaptive security frameworks. Focused on innovation and reliability, the team delivers impactful solutions that ensure compliance and secure access across Walmart’s global digital landscape, enabling trusted and seamless experiences aligned with the company’s mission.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
  • Experience driving full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
  • Ability to integrate AI/ML components and develop intelligent automation using languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, or C++.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership with mentorship skills and sound technical judgment for architectural decisions.
  • Data-driven decision-making skills to define metrics and optimize engineering processes.
  • Effective collaboration and communication across technical and business stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components using multiple programming languages.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics using data-driven practices.
