About The Position

ServiceNow is building platforms, frameworks, and developer experiences that help engineering teams create, modernize, and operate applications in an AI-first world. The Staff Software Engineer designs and develops scalable platform capabilities to improve developer productivity, accelerate application delivery, and integrate AI-powered workflows into the software development lifecycle. The role spans backend services, developer tooling, and modern web technologies, delivering reusable solutions for adoption across engineering organizations.

Requirements

10 or more years of professional software engineering experience.
Deep expertise in Java and modern backend development.
Strong proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React, REST APIs, distributed systems, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience building scalable distributed systems and enterprise-grade applications.
Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.
Experience building cloud-native applications and services.
Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns, and performance optimization.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and system design skills.
Ability to work effectively in complex, highly collaborative engineering environments.
Experience leveraging or critically considering how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving.
Passion for applying AI to developer productivity and software engineering challenges.

Nice To Haves

Experience with developer productivity platforms, internal developer portals, SDLC tooling, CI/CD systems, or platform engineering initiatives.
Hands-on experience with AI-powered development tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar.
Experience integrating GenAI, AI agents, MCP, LLM-powered workflows, or AI-assisted automation into engineering solutions.
Experience improving engineering efficiency through automation and AI-driven workflows.

Build modern, responsive user experiences using contemporary frontend frameworks.
Drive architecture discussions, mentor engineers, and influence engineering best practices as a technical leader.
Improve platform reliability, scalability, performance, and observability.
Evaluate and adopt emerging AI technologies, tools, and development patterns that improve engineering effectiveness.
