About The Position

ServiceNow is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help build platforms, frameworks, and developer experiences for AI-native software development. The role involves designing and developing scalable platform capabilities that improve developer productivity, accelerate application delivery, and bring AI-powered workflows into the software development lifecycle. The engineer will work across backend services, developer tooling, and modern web technologies to create reusable solutions adopted across engineering organizations. The position also provides technical leadership through architecture discussions, engineer mentorship, and influence on engineering best practices. The engineer will partner with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to take solutions from concept through production, while continually improving platform reliability, scalability, performance, and observability and assessing emerging AI technologies and development patterns.

Requirements

10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Deep expertise in Java and modern backend development.
Strong proficiency with Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React, REST APIs, distributed systems, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience building scalable distributed systems and enterprise-grade applications.
Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.
Experience building cloud-native applications and services.
Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns, and performance optimization.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and system design skills.
Proven ability to work effectively in complex, highly collaborative engineering environments.
Experience leveraging or critically considering how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving, such as using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI’s potential impact.
Passion for applying AI to real-world developer productivity and software engineering challenges.

Nice To Haves

Experience with developer productivity platforms, internal developer portals, SDLC tooling, CI/CD systems, or platform engineering initiatives.
Hands-on experience with AI-powered development tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar technologies.
Experience integrating GenAI, AI agents, MCP, LLM-powered workflows, or AI-assisted automation into engineering solutions.
Experience improving engineering efficiency through automation and AI-driven workflows.
