About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Software Delivery Services team, you will design, build, and ship services that install and update software on hundreds of thousands of Mac and Windows computers. The role uses an agent-first development approach: engineers write clear, testable specifications, direct AI coding agents to implement them, and review the resulting code for correctness and security. You will set technical direction across a device agent, cloud backend services, and an automated platform that deploys application updates in stages and halts releases when results appear unhealthy. You will also help the team improve how it builds with AI agents. Software Delivery Services ensures Walmart associates have the software they need, kept current and secure, across hundreds of thousands of Mac and Windows computers. The team manages the lifecycle of desktop applications, from intake and packaging through testing, deployment, updates, and retirement. It is building a platform intended to install and update software in minutes, support self-service app stores, and automate computer setup. The technology stack includes Go, C#, Node.js, React, SQL, and Azure Cosmos DB. The position includes leading production readiness from pilot through enterprise-wide rollout, including monitoring, load testing, failure handling, and rollback. You will partner with Mac, Windows, security, and product teams, and mentor engineers at every level.

Requirements

  • Experience with testable architecture and test-driven development.
  • Experience setting technical direction across multiple products or teams.

  • Background creating inclusive digital experiences, including knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, digital accessibility best practices, and Walmart accessibility standards and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own core services across Go, C#, Node.js, and React codebases, backed by SQL and Azure Cosmos DB.
  • Lead the team's AI-agent development practices by writing specifications, breaking work into agent-sized tasks, providing repository context and guardrails, and validating agent output with tests and review.
  • Design staged rollouts and health checks that automatically halt releases when results appear unhealthy.
  • Own architecture and security design for the device agent and backend services, including device identity, certificates, secure communication, and audit logging.
  • Review high-risk changes written by people or AI agents, and coach engineers to critically evaluate AI-generated code.
