Staff Software Engineer, Variant Classification

Labcorp•San Francisco, CA
•$100,000 - $198,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join its Labcorp Genetics Variant Classification team. The team builds and maintains tools that define, store, and provide detailed variant-, sample-, and test-level information for accurate variant interpretation and report generation. Its services support genetic variant interpretation reporting and assay development across platforms including SDS, VDB, Argus, iVEP, Evidence Service, MoonPy, Cerebro, Universal Transcript Archive, SeqRepo, and Assay CMS. The role designs, builds, and maintains systems that transform raw bioinformatic data into useful variant and sample information, while scaling storage and supplying annotations needed for interpretation. It also automates evidence placement and classification and supports test-content and assay-development initiatives. The engineer works with data scientists, variant scientists, and software developers, and provides technical leadership across teams by setting direction, addressing ambiguous problems, and aligning partner-team roadmaps with broader business goals. This is a full-time, exempt salaried position on a first-shift schedule, normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Business needs may occasionally require flexibility, including earlier, later, or additional hours, with reasonable notice when possible. Applicants living within 35 miles of Burlington or Durham, North Carolina, follow a hybrid schedule requiring at least three in-office days per week at an assigned location.
