Staff Software Engineer

Develop Health•San Francisco, CA
•$210,000 - $275,000

About The Position

Develop Health is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to turn complex healthcare problems into simple, reliable software. The hands-on role owns work from understanding user needs through launch and production. Working with Product, AI, and Operations, the engineer will build interfaces, services, integrations, and AI-powered workflows that remove obstacles between a prescription and treatment. The role also raises the engineering team's standards through technical decisions and shared AI-native tools and practices. In the first 3–6 months, the engineer will work with users to define useful solutions and success measures; lead a complex product initiative from discovery through launch; personally build critical components across the stack; make and explain architectural decisions; and implement testing, observability, safe rollouts, and AI fallbacks, iterating based on production evidence and user feedback. Beyond six months, the engineer will own the technical direction and customer outcomes of major product areas, solve cross-product technical problems, develop shared services, shape roadmaps using customer and operational evidence, and build AI-native tools and processes for planning, implementation, review, testing, and production. Develop Health works to use AI to accelerate access to life-saving medications by automating healthcare processes such as benefit verification and prior authorization. The company reports helping more than 2.5 million patients and partnering with major pharmacy benefit managers and payers.
