Staff Software Engineer - Developer Experience

Addepar•New York, NY
•$158,000 - $248,000

About The Position

Addepar is seeking a highly proactive Staff Software Engineer to drive the architecture of next-generation validation guardrails and advance an AI-native developer experience across the organization. The role focuses on turning workflows across all traditional SDLC stages—Planning, Design, Build, Test, Deploy, and Maintain—into an automated, closed-loop system. AI agents and committed markdown artifacts should accelerate delivery while keeping human engineers and product managers in control of high-judgment decisions. As a technical thought leader, the engineer will help design intelligent frameworks, AI SDLC playbooks, and deterministic guardrails to modernize software development. The role operates with a high degree of autonomy and includes leading grassroots efforts across engineering teams, navigating technical ambiguity, advocating best practices, mentoring developers, and building a friction-free internal platform. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without requiring current or future visa sponsorship, and must be authorized to begin work in the U.S. on their first day of employment.

Requirements

  • Deep conceptual and hands-on understanding of integrating AI into the development lifecycle across the entire SDLC.
  • Demonstrated success improving DORA metrics and framework reliability through explicit data analysis.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments, proactively identify friction, build a business case, and engineer solutions without waiting for assigned tickets.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript, with an emphasis on clean, maintainable, production-grade tools.
  • Deep hands-on experience with advanced CI/CD orchestration, such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform.
  • Experience with containerization, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States for any employer without current or future visa sponsorship, and authorization to begin work in the U.S. on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing complex software states and mimicking or isolating environments using tools at enterprise scale.
  • Past experience building custom internal wrapper applications or developer plugins around large language models (LLMs).
  • Proven success technically leading or closely pairing across split North American and Indian engineering hubs.
  • Familiarity with service integration testing, contract testing tools, and developer catalog platforms such as Backstage.

Responsibilities

  • Drive bottom-up adoption of AI-native development workflows across product teams by coaching engineers in orchestrating parallel agentic sessions and subagents.
  • Partner with platform engineers, R&D teams, and security to reduce traditional handoffs and convert manual sign-off cycles into automated artifact triggers with clear governance boundaries.
  • Operationalize markdown-driven artifact pipelines that create transparent audit trails from idea to production.
  • Architect deterministic build-time and deployment hooks that provide safety boundaries for AI-assisted development.
  • Integrate AI into pull request review workflows using structured policies and CI runners, enabling agents to conduct multi-pass reviews and autonomously resolve comment threads.
  • Design deterministic verification harnesses and visual feedback loops that let AI agents self-test, iterate on discovered defects, and verify correctness before human review.
  • Build continuous evaluation suites in CI to regression-test AI steering configurations against real engineering tasks when prompts or models change.
  • Implement automated production monitoring scripts to detect control breaches, including failure spikes and latency drift, and design triage queues that feed improvements back into the SDLC.
