About The Position

Moody’s Analytics is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to build and maintain enterprise platforms, cloud-native systems, and analytics workflows that power its data and intelligence solutions. The role delivers scalable full-stack software for global clients and internal stakeholders, working at the intersection of technology and financial risk. The engineer will own the architecture and technical direction of a domain, build backend services and APIs alongside responsive user-interface components, and develop cloud-native and serverless applications on AWS. The position also involves technical planning and estimates, reusable engineering components, production issue resolution, cross-functional collaboration, and mentoring. The engineer will help guide the responsible use of AI-assisted development and assess the value of LLM and agentic capabilities in Moody’s platforms. The role calls for extensive professional software engineering experience, technical leadership, and expertise in .NET, Python, frontend development, AWS, distributed applications, and data platforms. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent professional experience is required. The role is full-time. For US-based roles, the anticipated base salary range is $140,200 to $207,000, depending on experience, education, level, skills, and location. The position is also eligible for incentive compensation.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including multi-year ownership of a significant domain, documented decisions, and demonstrated impact.
  • Experience as a senior or technical lead engineer, including mentoring engineers and improving quality across teams.
  • Expert full-stack development skills, including C# and .NET Core (.NET 8), ASP.NET, and Web APIs; Python and FastAPI; and Angular or React, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Deep proficiency designing, developing, scaling, and maintaining complex distributed applications and maintainable user-interface architecture.
  • Hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating cloud-native AWS solutions, including .NET and Python on Lambda, SQS-driven event-based workflows, and AWS Batch.
  • Ability to design end-to-end systems, APIs, data flows, and integration patterns; write technical specifications and estimates; assess scalability, performance, and reliability trade-offs; document decisions; manage technical debt; and lead complex component design.
  • Experience with SQL Server, including advanced T-SQL, stored procedures, and performance tuning; PostgreSQL; and DynamoDB. Exposure to MongoDB is also noted.
  • Working knowledge of Git and GitHub, CI/CD pipelines such as CircleCI or Jenkins, automated deployment patterns, and test-driven development.
  • Working knowledge of observability tools such as New Relic, AWS CloudWatch, or Splunk.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise software security, privacy, and governance practices, and ability to incorporate them into design and delivery.
  • Ability to connect technical work to business outcomes and partner with product teams on priorities, trade-offs, and feasibility.
  • Ability to work closely with product managers, designers, QA, DevOps, and program management in Agile teams, and communicate technical plans and risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Regular use of AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude, with sound judgment to maintain quality and security standards.
  • Deep expertise in artificial intelligence, including implementing advanced AI solutions for strategic transformation and operational efficiency; using AI tools to lead innovation initiatives; managing AI-related risks; ensuring ethical governance; and fostering responsible AI adoption.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.

Nice To Haves
