Code Metal is hiring a founding Staff Quality Engineer (SDET) for Modeling & Simulation within its centralized Quality Engineering function. The Modeling & Simulation team builds a wargaming and decision-support platform that helps the U.S. Department of War evaluate mission- and campaign-level force-design decisions. The platform combines backend APIs, asynchronous workers, geospatial and sensing models, authenticated multi-team play, external simulation integrations, and emerging AI-assisted capabilities. The role will connect and extend existing unit and integration coverage into reproducible quality evidence across services, models, and end-to-end workflows. The engineer will design and build the platform’s automated validation system, deciding which behaviors need deterministic verification, statistical or model-based evaluation, or human review, and how limitations and residual risk are communicated as release evidence. This is a hands-on software engineering role focused on foundational test infrastructure, critical tests, and helping engineers build quality into their work. The position also contributes lessons from Modeling & Simulation to reusable quality bars, reporting practices, testing standards, and validation infrastructure for the centralized Quality Engineering function. Typically, candidates have 8+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated Staff-level scope and impact, though equivalent depth of experience is valued over a rigid year count. The company offers a flexible hybrid or remote work arrangement.
