About The Position

ID.me is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack to join the Commerce & Loyalty team. This team owns the ID.me Shop experience, which includes cashback, affiliate offers, merchant discounts, and loyalty programs, as well as the marketing and campaign surfaces that drive member engagement and commerce revenue. The role is based in the Mountain View, CA office and requires working on-site five days a week. This is a full-stack position where the engineer will focus on the React/Next.js web experience for Shop and SuperApp, and also build and extend backend services and APIs. The engineer will serve as the technical anchor for the team's frontend surfaces, influencing architecture decisions, improving engineering standards, and collaborating with Design and Product to implement commerce, personalization, and loyalty features. The primary focus is on enhancing and scaling the Shop product experience, with contributions to shared platform or design-system infrastructure being secondary and on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong frontend engineering experience (typically 5+ years)
• Deep expertise in vanilla JavaScript, HTML, and the DOM
• Hands-on experience shipping native Web Components in production (Custom Elements, templates, Shadow DOM, slots, events)
• Solid production experience with React (and Next.js)
• Experience with UI component libraries or design systems
• Familiarity with design tokens, theming, and scalable CSS (custom properties, shared stylesheets)
• Proven collaboration with design on system-level UI
• Strong grasp of accessibility standards and browser behavior
• Working proficiency in a backend language for building and maintaining REST services
• Full stack ownership experience, from frontend UI through backend services and APIs
• AI-native engineering practices — comfortable using AI tooling (e.g., code generation, test coverage, documentation) to accelerate development

Nice To Haves

• Experience with ID.me's commerce/marketplace stack and shared internal design systems
• Experience with micro-frontend architectures or contributing to a shared internal design system
• Experience building personalization, recommendation, offer-ranking, or loyalty/cashback UI
• Experience with affiliate network integrations or e-commerce/marketplace platforms
• Familiarity with identity, benefits, or credential-based access concepts

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Shop Web Experiences using React, Next.js, and TypeScript, including personalized offer discovery, cashback/loyalty flows, and merchant/store pages.
• Build and extend backend REST endpoints and services to support new or modified frontend features, taking full ownership from UI through backend.
• Integrate with Shopping Graph and Developer Portal APIs for merchant data, offer eligibility, and personalization signals.
• Participate in ongoing platform modernization efforts such as the GKE migration for Shop and adoption of shared UI patterns.
• Contribute reusable components or patterns to ID.me's shared design system (UI Foundations) when they have broader applicability.
• Collaborate closely with Design and Product teams to translate concepts into feasible, member-centered web UI.
• Define and set engineering standards for testing, code quality, and review processes for the team's codebase.
• Mentor other engineers on the team.
• Ensure shipped features meet ID.me's standards for performance, accessibility, and cross-browser reliability.
• Provide production support, including triaging and resolving incidents and bugs.
