Staff Software Engineer, Data Platform (Rust)
About The Position
Hercules is looking for a staff-level platform engineer to help build the future of AI software development. The role involves leading the Hercules platform-as-a-service, focusing on areas such as the Hercules Database (an enterprise-grade, database-like object model with flexible schemas and fine-grained access controls), backend services (fast, scalable, and deeply tied to the Hercules Database), AI SDKs (designing interfaces for AI agents), performance and scale (engineering for low latency, high throughput, and efficient resource use), and hosting & infrastructure (building and operating reliable infrastructure with strong tenant isolation, observability, and failure resilience).
Requirements
- Incredibly strong software fundamentals: system design, architecture, data modeling, and API design.
- Proficiency in writing clean, maintainable code and working effectively in monorepos.
- Expertise in Rust for building efficient, reliable production systems.
- Deep understanding of data systems: indexing, query performance, transactions, and consistency.
- Experience with infrastructure for scaling large, data-intensive, multi-tenant, distributed services.
- Proven ability to optimize for latency, throughput, and resource efficiency.
- Ability to leverage AI to enhance workflow.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Hercules platform-as-a-service.
- Build the Hercules Database: An enterprise-grade, database-like object model with flexible schemas and fine-grained access controls.
- Develop Backend Services: A fast, scalable backend-as-a-service deeply tied to the Hercules Database.
- Design AI SDKs: Design the interfaces AI agents use to build on the platform.
- Engineer for Performance & Scale: Engineer for low latency, high throughput, and efficient resource use.
- Build and operate Hosting & Infrastructure: Build and operate the infrastructure that runs customer applications reliably, with strong tenant isolation, observability, and failure resilience.
