About The Position

Hercules is looking for a staff-level platform engineer to help build the future of AI software development. The role involves leading the Hercules platform-as-a-service, which includes the Hercules Database (an enterprise-grade, database-like object model with flexible schemas and fine-grained access controls), backend services (fast, scalable backend-as-a-service deeply tied to the Hercules Database), APIs & SDKs (designing interfaces for AI agents), performance and scale engineering (low latency, high throughput, efficient resource use), and hosting & infrastructure (building and operating reliable infrastructure for customer applications with strong tenant isolation, observability, and failure resilience).

Requirements

Strong software fundamentals: system design, architecture, data modeling, and API design
Ability to write clean, maintainable code and work effectively in monorepos
Experience building efficient, reliable production systems with Rust
Expertise in data systems: indexing, query performance, transactions, and consistency
Experience scaling large, data-intensive, multi-tenant, distributed services
Proficiency in optimizing for latency, throughput, and resource efficiency
Ability to leverage AI to enhance workflow (10x productivity)
