Staff / Senior Staff Engineer, AI Products
About The Position
We are a team of ex-Google engineers who previously built large defensive platforms like Safe Browsing and reCAPTCHA. We are now focused on addressing the new wave of adversarial AI attacks targeting organizations. We are seeking a Staff or Senior Staff Engineer to help build the next generation of security products at Aegis. This role offers a highly technical challenge with a clear path to significant leadership. Initial responsibilities include owning difficult problems, shipping code, defining technical direction, and improving the skills of surrounding engineers. The scope of the role can expand rapidly as the individual demonstrates leadership in product and people management. This position is ideal for a Staff or Senior Staff engineer aspiring to build a team, or an engineering manager seeking to deepen their technical involvement before taking on broader leadership responsibilities.
Requirements
- Operated at Staff-level technical scope, or have equivalent experience leading technically complex systems and teams.
- Built production systems where false positives, correctness, reliability, or risk were critical factors.
- Ability to transition between architecture and implementation seamlessly.
- Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and adapting them as new information becomes available.
- Skill in prioritizing across multiple important problems.
- Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly in writing.
- Proven ability to make other engineers more effective, regardless of formal management role.
- Desire for significantly more responsibility than current environment offers.
- Excitement about the problems themselves.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in security detection, fraud, abuse, or other adversarial systems.
- Experience with behavioral or anomaly detection.
- Experience with data-intensive distributed systems.
- Experience with LLMs used in production decision-making.
- Experience building evaluation systems and labeled datasets for ML or AI products.
- Experience with enterprise security products or integrations.
- Experience taking an early product from a small user base to broad production adoption.
- Experience building or leading engineering teams in an early-stage company.
Responsibilities
- Build security systems capable of making sound decisions with incomplete and noisy information.
- Transform large volumes of noisy security data into high-confidence detections.
- Influence and participate in model creation to enhance product development.
- Understand and define 'normal' behavior patterns that vary for each user and organization.
- Transition new detection ideas from prototype to robust production systems.
- Measure the accuracy and effectiveness of the developed systems.
- Work across detection systems, distributed infrastructure, product surfaces, and AI inference, understanding the entire data pipeline from raw data to customer-facing decisions.
- Develop automated or assisted responses that customers can trust.
