About The Position

We are currently searching for a Staff Scientist to provide analytical and translational research support that will contribute to satisfying the overall operational objectives of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD. Develop and maintain inventory and accountability for reagents and supplies needed for studies in lipid biochemistry. Develop and maintain inventory and accountability patient samples. Develop and maintain clinical and biomarkers database associated with cardiovascular disease and inflammation. Perform a variety of biochemical assays including PBMC isolation, flow cytometry, ELISA, western blots. Resolve operational challenges and problems without assistance from higher-level staff. Track lab member training and protocol requirements related to the Laboratory’s research. Maintain protocols and standard operation procedures related to lab safety, training, and processing of samples. Assist with onboarding of new lab members including staff scientists, post-doctoral fellows, and intramural research training awardees. Assist the lab head and other faculty members in the creation and preparation of a variety of documents required by scientific activities (e.g., CRADAs, Material Transfer Agreements, Patent Applications, Animal Protocols, BSC review) Review, edit, and write first drafts of study reports, papers, posters, and manuscripts produced within the laboratory for consistency of the research agenda, adherence to any applicable scientific policies, and clarity of presentation of data and other scientific information. Independently follow written and oral guidance working individually or in a team-oriented environment. Maintain careful laboratory records including written lab notebooks and well-organized online data files. Analyze data, summarize findings, and generate presentations in an appropriate format. Assist in troubleshooting and calibrating various laboratory equipment and instruments. Work with scientists, reagent and media suppliers, equipment sales representatives, instrument repairers, to maintain serviceable equipment, reagents and contracts. Participate in laboratory meetings and maintain compliance with current institute laboratory and safety guidelines. Contributes Methods, Results and Figure Legends from their own experiments to a published paper; work may require extensive editing. Maintain accurate experimental records both in laboratory notebooks and digitally. Prepare and deliver periodic oral and written group meeting reports. Maintain and develop strong management and leadership skills. Provide training and mentorship to students and other personnel in the use of laboratory equipment and in the performance of specialized procedures, techniques, etc.

Requirements

  • PhD in a scientific field.
  • At least FOUR (4) years of experience in nutrition science and lipid chemistry.
  • Experience with mouse dietary studies
  • Experience in analysis of lipid and lipoproteins
  • Experience in performing atherosclerosis quantification in mice.
  • Experience in clinical trial design and fatty acid supplements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD "public trust"; candidates must obtain approved adjudication of their public trust prior to onboarding with Guidehouse.
  • Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred
