About The Position

The Staff Safety Engineer will be part of the Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control Environmental Safety and Health team, responsible for ensuring safety compliance and risk mitigation across all programs at the Missiles and Fire Control facility in Troy, Alabama. This role involves hands-on engagement with equipment, support staff, and processes, as well as analyzing new technologies to identify risks and implement mitigation strategies. The goal is to ensure compliance with ordnance safety requirements and protect employees from potential hazards. The position requires daily interaction in production manufacturing areas.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
  • Capability to acquire proficiency in all processes and procedures related to Explosive Safety and Process/System Safety Management.
  • Ability to interpretate and apply industry and regulatory standards (NFPA, ANSI, OSHA, and DOD).
  • Skill in collecting, analyzing, and presenting Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) metrics to stakeholders, offering insights and recommendations for enhancement.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with internal and external customers at all levels of the organization.
  • Competence in reading, interpreting, and developing written instructions based on technical drawings and documentation.
  • Must be able to pass the OSHA Hazwoper Medical Evaluation and safely wear an SCBA respirator when required for emergency response.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance and must have at a minimum an interim Secret security clearance prior to start.
  • Ability to work additional time outside of normal work schedule.
  • Candidate must be able to pass a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (“ATF”) background check to obtain approval to be an “employee possessor” (of explosives or other ATF-regulated items) as defined by ATF regulations. Failure to obtain and retain employee possessor status may result in revocation of an offer and loss of employment.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Background working knowledge of Explosive Safety and Engineering practices.
  • Experience with robotics, automation and advanced manufacturing.
  • SAP, Enablon ESH Management System, and Wind Chill business systems.
  • Knowledge of DoD.4145.26M Contractor Safety Manual.
  • Knowledge of ASTM, DOT, NFPA, ANSI and OSHA safety standards.
  • Knowledge of Radio Frequency, Laser and X-ray hazards.
  • Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist professional certification.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting safety-related process equipment
  • Identifying and assessing equipment and process risk through regular onsite inspections and meetings
  • Working with data tracking and engineering software
  • Reviewing engineering drawings for hazards and risks
  • Reviewing Manufacturing Process Plans for compliance with all regulations and procedures
  • Participating on design teams for advanced manufacturing tooling
  • Developing hazard analyses and risk assessments to support manufacturing processes and testing operations
  • Preparing test procedures based on engineering specifications
  • Conducting incident investigations, and recommending corrective action solutions
  • Apply applicable DOD, NFPA, OSHA, and ANSI standards
