About The Position

The Registered Nurse is a practitioner who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for an identified group of patients in an inpatient environment. This individual demonstrates competency in delivery of care to a primarily adult population. The Staff RN-Inpatient job description has incorporated essential functions which are adapted from the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Clinical competence and experience in the care and management of target patient populations specific to area of employment.
  • Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of education at an accredited School of Nursing in order to be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • All newly hired or transferred RNs who do not hold a BSN (or higher nursing degree) and have less than one year of RN experience must provide proof of acceptance into an accredited BSN (or higher nursing degree) program within 15 months of hire or transfer into a Graduate Nurse or Registered Nurse role. The program must be completed within five (5) years of enrollment.
  • This requirement does not apply to non-BSN hires who already hold a bachelor's or graduate degree in a field other than nursing.
  • Direct-entry BSN or MSN students who have not yet completed their nursing degree at the time of hire are not exempt, even if they hold bachelor's or graduate degrees in another field.
  • RNs who enroll in an MSN, DNP, or PhD in Nursing program may meet this requirement through that program. If a BSN is awarded as part of the program, it must be completed within five (5) years of enrollment. If no BSN is awarded, the MSN, DNP, or PhD in Nursing must be completed within six (6) years of enrollment.
  • Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact).
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
  • American Academy of Pediatric (AAP) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is required within one year of hire.
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification through the National Certification Corporation (NCC) is required within 18 months from date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
