About The Position

In the Acute Care Cardiology/Surgical Unit, we treat patients of all ages, specializing in surgical and medical patients with a wide variety of diagnoses. We are currently expanding our Heart Center patient population to provide medical cardiac management for children and adolescents with heart and vascular disease. This is a 6-bed unit housed on an existing surgical unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3. While we care for all ages, approximately 75% of our population is under the age of six months. We are looking for detail-oriented nurses who can handle a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively as a team. The role assists patients to move rapidly, uneventfully, and as effectively as possible through their episode of care while maintaining quality and safety as a priority. It involves delegating, directing, overseeing, and providing developmentally appropriate patient care. The nurse practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and maintains a current Ohio Nursing License.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • BSN or Associate degree with commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years of hire, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain NRP, PALS, ACLS, APHON or other necessary certification as determined by your manager based on business unit.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care using a Family Centered approach.
  • Assesses individualized patient needs.
  • Communicates patient care needs and priorities to assigned Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Assistants (PCAs), Unit Coordinators, and Allied Health personnel.
  • Plans, implements, educates and evaluates care using Evidence-Based Practices.
  • Utilizes Therapeutic Communication while monitoring the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and families.
  • Engages in the “workplace community” by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and then reporting important information and updates back to staff.
  • Documents according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
