About The Position

The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is an independent, non-profit biomedical research organization located in Torrance, California. In dozens of laboratories throughout the campus, researchers are working to unravel the mysteries of heart and kidney disease, cardiac complications in newborns, chronic lung disease, skin cancer, sickle cell disease, disorders of the autoimmune system, and much more. Many of these projects are collaborative in nature, involving experts from different areas of specialization. Our discoveries have prevented blindness in newborns, enabled premature infants with fragile lungs to breathe and allowed children with rare, often fatal diseases to grow up healthy and strong.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Immunology, Microbiology, Cell Culture, Experimental Models of Infection
  • Graduate degree in immunology and/or microbiology, with an emphasis on infection and antibiotic resistance.
  • Experience in T and B cell biology, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy and in vivo imaging of infection.
  • Outstanding scientific writing skills and capabilities in drafting manuscripts for submission to premium journals
  • Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to other professional personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on discoveries in molecular / cellular immunology and the development of innovative anti-infective agents
  • Facile with cutting-edge methods in immunology, genetics, and in vivo models of host defense such as: 1) leukocyte, lymphocyte, and cytokine immunology; 2) immunohistochemistry; 3) flow cytometry; 4) adoptive transfer or like methods applied to innate and adaptive immunity; 4) in vivo models of immunology and anti-infective agents
  • Maintain accurate and updated records and notebooks; aptitude in good laboratory practice (GLP)
  • Manage laboratory schedules, inventory and ordering consistent with efficient operations
  • Outstanding scientific writing skills and experience in drafting manuscripts for submission to premium journals
