About The Position

OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center is Oklahoma’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Cancer Center. The Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC) at Stephenson Cancer Center is hiring a motivated Staff Research Assistant in their Tulsa office. This role focuses on public health, behavioral science, and hands-on research. It is not a biomedical/bench science lab position. The role involves working directly with participants and research teams on multiple ongoing behavioral health studies, supporting NIH-funded and pilot randomized controlled trials focused on health behavior change (smoking cessation, alcohol use reduction, marijuana use reduction). Responsibilities include participant referrals, screening, data collection, record keeping, data analysis, and report preparation. The position offers experience across the full research lifecycle and opportunities to contribute to scientific publications. This role is for someone detail-oriented, people-focused, and excited to grow research skills in a nationally recognized cancer center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Biology, Psychology, Engineering, Computer Science, Sociology, or a related discipline aligned with the specific area of research or project focus)
  • 1 year of experience supporting research or working in a laboratory setting
  • Experience or a combination of education & related experience can be considered in lieu of degree. A one-to-one ratio is used to determine the number of years of experience required in place of a degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Unpaid or paid experience working in a behavioral research lab.
  • Experience working with Native American participants and/or knowledge of Native American Culture.
  • Previous experience with psychophysiology helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in clinical research projects collecting data from patients and/or participants in a study.
  • Completes informed consent procedures with study participants.
  • Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects, which could include database information and/or hard files (e.g., in-person questionnaires, smartphone-based questionnaires) pertaining to smartphone and tablet-based research projects.
  • Conducts data analyses, interprets data, draws conclusions, and discusses with principal investigator.
  • Keeps detailed logs of all research related projects or activities.
  • Conducts literature searches.
  • Prepares various reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content that may be submitted for publication.
  • Constructs tests or assists in the construction of tests.
  • Collaborates with other researchers or colleagues.
  • Participates in meetings and presents research findings to fellow researchers and Principal Investigator.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
