About The Position

United Health Services (UHS) is hiring Staff Registered Nurses for their PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) team at UHS Wilson Medical Center and UHS Binghamton General Hospital. The PACU is described as a fast-paced and collaborative environment where nurses manage patients' pain and aid in their rapid improvement. The positions are part-time, 24 hours per week, with day and night rotation, and involve 8-hour shifts. Weekends and holidays are on call. The role requires assessing, planning, delegating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. It also involves educating patients and families, administering medications safely, managing resources effectively, and participating in the Nursing Shared Governance Model. The role supports professional development, integrates research into practice, and provides a learning environment for new employees and students. Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator duties may also be performed.

Requirements

  • A graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse License.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing
  • Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting
  • CCRN
  • Relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by home unit assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements and evaluates nursing care in managing a group of patients, serving as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse, when designated by unit assignment and consideration of factors related to safety, effectiveness, competency, cost and impact.
  • Educates patient and family in health promotion and disease management using available resources.
  • Utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology and safely administers medications according to UHS Hospitals policy.
  • Shares in responsibility for productivity and effective resources utilization including staffing, time management, supplies and services.
  • Complies with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and UHS policies.
  • Actively participates in and supports the Nursing Shared Governance Model by supporting the Unit Council, participating in improvement initiatives, and contributing to peer review practices.
  • Actively engages in professional development, continuing nursing education, and completing all mandatory education requirements.
  • Integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice.
  • Provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
  • Performs duties related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned.
