Second Nature
$180,000 - $200,000Remote

About The Position

At Second Nature, we are building the world's first Resident Experience Platform to make resident onboarding, services, and ancillary revenue effortless for property managers. We are passionate about creating triple win experiences for residents, property managers, and investors. We are looking for a Staff Quality Assurance Engineer to join our team of over 290 passionate and creative individuals. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a fast-growing company in an exciting new category and to help build a company where employees can do their very best work and grow the most. This role is a staff-level engineering position focused on quality engineering as a craft. You will be responsible for owning the automated-testing strategy and frameworks across our UI product, making quality measurable, leading an AI-first approach to testing, modernizing integration testing, coaching engineers on quality practices, and driving the Quality Enablement practice. You will work across every pod (small cross-functional Product and Tech teams) and have an outsized influence on how Second Nature ships quality. We are looking for someone who is an AI-first by default, an exceptional communicator, a self-starter who drives outcomes, and is strong with AWS and Node/TypeScript.

Requirements

  • Staff-level engineer with deep experience designing, coding, and owning test automation and frameworks across layers (unit, integration, contract, and browser/e2e).
  • Genuine passion for and a real track record of building high-quality automated testing.
  • AI-first by default, with experience reaching for AI (e.g., Claude) to accelerate and harden testing by building agent workflows, skills, and tooling.
  • Exceptional communicator who can align engineers, PMs, and leaders, and coach effectively across teams and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-starter with high autonomy and a drive for measurable results.
  • Strong with AWS and Node/TypeScript.
  • Comfortable across distributed, service-oriented systems and testing across service boundaries.
  • Ability to work an 8-to-5 EST schedule.
  • Must be available during scheduled working hours and give full attention to job duties.
  • Must have a quiet, professional, distraction-free environment.
  • Must have access to a reliable high-speed internet connection.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience standing up or scaling a quality engineering practice.
  • Performance/load testing experience.
  • Data-integrity testing against relational databases (PostgreSQL).
  • PropTech, real estate tech, or B2B2C SaaS experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own the automated-testing strategy and frameworks across our UI product, starting with Resident Onboarding and then Command Center.
  • Drive critical-user-flow coverage into the delivery pipeline so ownership sits with engineering.
  • Make quality measurable by building and maintaining a risk-weighted registry of critical flows and reporting coverage through live dashboards.
  • Lead an AI-first approach to testing, teaching AI models about our systems and building tooling for rapid, repeatable, and reliable execution of complex scenarios.
  • Modernize integration testing by moving partner verification from manual, web-based checking to API-based automation.
  • Coach engineers on quality practices, embedding quality into design and PR reviews, and helping teams build in quality up front.
  • Drive the Quality Enablement practice by partnering with engineering directors, platform teams, and product stakeholders to identify and prioritize tooling and system-testability gaps.
  • Build guardrails such as CI coverage ratchets, deploy-gate health, flake reduction, and make escaped defects visible and tracked.

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, & Life Insurance
  • 401K Plan
  • Open PTO and sick days
  • Bi-annual in-person company meetings (reimbursed)
