About The Position

Virginia Tech’s Division of Student Affairs is seeking a Staff Psychologist to join the Cook Counseling Center team in Blacksburg, VA. This role is part of a department focused on promoting student learning, development, retention, and holistic well-being by providing resources for improving mental health and identifying psychological barriers to academic success. The Staff Psychologist will report to the Assistant Director of Clinical Services in a regular twelve-month, 100% administrative professional appointment.

Requirements

Doctoral degree from an APA-approved program with an APA-approved internship.
Licensed or licensed eligible as a licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Experience providing focused therapeutic interventions with a multidisciplinary team.
Experience and interest in collaboration with academic departments, faculty, and staff.
Training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions.
Well-developed counseling and clinical supervision skills.
Experience with outreach and educational programming, e.g., prevention programs.
Experience managing crisis situations, completing risk assessments, and disposition planning to address safety risks.
A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.
The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy relationships.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues with acceptance, respect, and trust.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Experience or interest in working with students from under-represented populations.
Previous training and/or experience in a college mental health setting.

Responsibilities

Providing direct clinical services to undergraduate and graduate students, including initial consultation and assessment, crisis intervention as needed, individual and group counseling, and psychiatric referrals.
Consulting with faculty, advisors, and staff regarding student mental health concerns.
Providing supervision for unlicensed staff and trainees.
Providing backup coverage for the after-hours crisis service as assigned.
