Staff Product Manager, Accounting Products

Stripe•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Stripe’s Accounting Products team is building modern infrastructure for the Office of the CFO, with a vision of giving finance teams and their supporting agents one reconciled and explainable presentation of financial truth. The team is addressing fragmented accounting data and context across billing systems, contracts, spreadsheets, general ledgers, and finance teams’ workflows. Revenue Recognition is its first major proof point: helping Stripe Billing and Metronome users turn complex revenue activity into accurate, explainable journal entries. The broader ambition is for agents to handle investigation, configuration, and repetitive work while accountants retain control over consequential judgments and approvals, with expansion into other Office of the CFO workflows over time. This is a senior individual-contributor role with significant ownership, autonomy, and influence across Product, Engineering, Design, Finance, Data Science, and Go-to-Market teams. The role owns a significant product area within Accounting Products, setting strategy, roadmap, and success measures, and translating the broader vision into a focused plan from customer discovery and prototypes through scaled adoption. The work connects Stripe’s Revenue Suite with external systems customers use to manage accounting workflows.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of product management experience delivering complex, technically or domain-intensive products, including senior individual-contributor experience independently setting direction, aligning cross-functional teams, and driving decisions without formal authority.
  • Experience building products for finance, accounting, or similarly demanding domains where accuracy, controls, traceability, and trust are essential, with a high bar for correctness, explainability, reliability, and operability.
  • Strong customer instincts and experience working directly with specialized users to uncover needs and translate domain complexity into coherent products.
  • Understanding of complex systems, data models, APIs, integrations, and technical tradeoffs.
  • Strong strategic judgment and experience taking products from ambiguity to execution, including identifying differentiated advantages, defining initial markets, sequencing multi-year opportunities, and connecting strategy to detailed requirements, data analysis, and delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and collaborative leadership across technical, business, and go-to-market teams, including the ability to clarify complex problems, align stakeholders, surface risks, and make or revise decisions as evidence changes in high-stakes environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building accounting products for controllers, accounting teams, or other Office of the CFO users.
  • Working knowledge of revenue recognition under ASC 606 or IFRS 15, particularly for usage-based pricing, variable consideration, minimum commitments, credits, and contract modifications.
  • Experience building AI- or agent-powered products that investigate information, explain recommendations, or act within defined controls and human review or approval workflows.
  • Familiarity with general ledgers and ERP systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, or Xero, including integrations and operational processes for transferring and reconciling financial results.
  • An accounting background, CPA qualification, or experience partnering closely with accounting policy, controllership, or audit teams.

Responsibilities

  • Define product strategy, the initial customer market, and roadmap; make and revise prioritization choices based on evidence.
  • Work directly with controllers, accountants, finance leaders, auditors, and implementation partners to understand accounting workflows, including month-end close, and translate problems into product requirements.
  • Define how people and agents collaborate to configure accounting policies, explain results, investigate exceptions, and propose or execute resolutions, with suitable reviews, approvals, controls, and audit trails.
  • Shape Revenue Recognition for Stripe Billing and Metronome users, supporting accurate journal entries and revenue schedules for usage-based pricing, credits, minimum commitments, contract modifications, and other complex business models.
  • Build accurate, explainable, and operationally reliable products with results traceable to source activity, accounting treatment, and supporting evidence.
  • Measure success through accurate closes, accepted outputs, time savings, reliable general-ledger handoffs, adoption, and retention.
  • Take products from prototype to scale with design partners; determine what to standardize, automate, or keep narrow, and define integrations with general ledgers, ERP, customer relationship management, and professional-services platforms.
  • Align senior stakeholders and partner with Billing, Metronome, Tax, Payments, and other teams to make financial results consistent across products.
  • Raise product-thinking quality through clear writing, sound judgment, and constructive challenge.
