Staff Product Engineer

Renesas Electronics•Palm Bay, FL

About The Position

As a Staff Product Engineer on the Hi-Reliability team, you will use in-depth technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to resolve complex engineering issues and guide new integrated circuits (ICs) through the New Product Introduction (NPI) cycle. You will work across disciplines and collaborate with contacts in IC design, test, reliability, packaging, radiation effects, and manufacturing. You will determine methods and procedures for new characterization and qualification assignments, use independent judgment to evaluate variable factors, and identify best practices that produce high-quality, manufacturable semiconductor solutions. The role involves independently completing engineering assignments, advising colleagues on complex technical matters, and mentoring less-experienced engineers. Management guidance is needed only for the most complex situations. Renesas is an embedded semiconductor solution provider with a global team of more than 21,000 engineers and problem solvers in over 30 countries. Its stated purpose is “To Make Our Lives Easier,” and its TAGIE culture is grounded in being Transparent, Agile, Global, Innovative, and Entrepreneurial. The company describes its technology as serving Automotive, Industrial, Infrastructure, and IoT markets. Renesas states that it is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. Its products may be subject to U.S. export controls, and a U.S. government export license may be necessary before technology is released to certain persons.

  • Experience with IC characterization and evaluation of product performance.
  • Strong data analysis capability, including interpreting characterization, test, yield, production, or other semiconductor product data.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with high-reliability, space-grade, or radiation-hardened semiconductor products and qualification standards such as MIL-PRF-38535.
  • Experience with ATE platforms such as Advantest V93K or Teradyne ETS-64/UltraFLEX and with bench-to-ATE correlation.
  • Proficiency with statistical data analysis tools such as JMP, Spotfire, or Python.
  • Technical domain background in analog, mixed-signal, or power management ICs.
  • Experience mentoring early-career engineers or acting as a task lead within a product team.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical focal point and key technical contributor for Product Engineering tasks, supporting project milestones and NPI schedule targets.
  • Determine methods and procedures for new characterization assignments and execute electrical validation and performance evaluations across environmental conditions.
  • Investigate and resolve complex yield, reliability, and manufacturability issues through in-depth evaluation of relevant factors.
  • Select methods, adapt analytical techniques, and establish evaluation criteria for interpreting characterization, test, and production data.
  • Collaborate across functions, including Design, Test, Packaging, Quality, Reliability, and Foundry Operations, to drive alignment.
  • Partner with Test Engineering on ATE test strategies, bench-to-ATE correlation, and test coverage optimization.
  • Identify and develop departmental best practices for high-quality and effective engineering solutions.
  • Communicate technical findings, recommendations, and risk assessments in a manner suited to the audience and wider business targets.
  • Advise colleagues on complex technical matters and mentor less-experienced engineers.
