About The Position

The Staff Product Designer is the durable design owner of a major Babylist experience, responsible for how things feel, user flows, and ensuring the experience is intuitive, beautiful, and emotionally right for the user. This role involves working alongside product managers, engineers, and data partners to drive the experience layer and meet user needs. The designer will flex beyond basics by running research, standing up working prototypes quickly, and contributing to production-quality front-end code. This role is key in shaping how parents discover products, build registries, receive gifts, and navigate early parenthood across web and native mobile, ensuring the experience is easy to use, understand, and worthy of user trust. The position also involves helping Babylist transition into AI-native product development by setting standards and workflows for AI-native design. In this role, you shape how parents discover products, build their registry, receive gifts, and navigate early parenthood across web and native mobile. These are not casual interactions. Families are making decisions during one of the most meaningful and overwhelming transitions of their lives. The experience has to be easy to use, easy to understand, and worthy of the trust they place in us.

Requirements

  • Craft and experience obsessed, caring deeply about how things feel, noticing details like transitions, motion, and accessibility.
  • A systems thinker, seeing the full picture and how interactions fit into broader flows and the design system.
  • Industry aware and pattern fluent, staying current with modern product design and knowing when to apply or evolve patterns.
  • Human-and-data-centered, knowing how to leverage research to unlock insights and grounding design decisions in qualitative and quantitative evidence.
  • A product strategist, able to articulate and defend product direction and vision.
  • Critical thinker, questioning assumptions and stress-testing ideas.
  • Feedback fan, building feedback loops into the process and actively soliciting critique.
  • AI-native, using AI tools to prototype, explore, and iterate at speed, with a portfolio demonstrating this.
  • A real builder, writing production frontend code and not being dependent on engineers for translation.
  • Outcome owner, owning impact beyond shipping, tracking metrics, and making iterate/pivot/stop decisions based on evidence.
  • Adaptable to change, selecting for change, working across team boundaries, and bringing curiosity to ambiguity.
  • Excited about the AI transformation and helping to shape an AI-first design organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and building for e-commerce, marketplace, or registry products where trust, clarity, and emotional tone matter as much as conversion.
  • Experience with a modern frontend stack (React, React Native, Swift UI, or equivalent), with opinions about component architecture and know-how for maintainability.
  • A background in motion design, animation, or advanced CSS.
  • Experience building or significantly contributing to a design system used across multiple products and platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Own a customer journey or major product experience end-to-end, thinking holistically about user flows, brand expression, information architecture, and interaction patterns across the full Babylist product ecosystem.
  • Set the design vision for their experience, articulating future states and defining the sequence of bets to achieve it, earning organizational alignment.
  • Design and build experiences that drive outcomes, creating intuitive, simple, and delightful experiences.
  • Define excellence by setting the bar for quality, delight, and product excellence, demonstrating and teaching the organization.
  • Stay deeply connected to users by planning and executing research to ground design decisions in user behavior.
  • Contribute to and evolve Babylist's design system, building reusable components and defining interaction patterns.
  • Operate with agency, creating the conditions for success, biasing toward action, and holding self and others accountable.
  • Build with AI-native workflows for research synthesis, rapid prototyping, production code, design system evolution, and interaction exploration.
  • Write production frontend code to implement, refine, and polish experiences, owning details like transitions, micro-interactions, and states.
  • Scale design democratization by building AI-enabled workflows that involve collaborators in design tools and acting as a consultant.
  • Develop other designers by giving specific feedback, contributing to hiring, and sharing tools and practices.
  • Multiply the team by being an excellent partner to engineers, product managers, and analysts, bringing tighter problem framing and sharper user insight.
  • Be a flexible operator, ramping fast, partnering well, and getting work into customers' hands quickly.
