Staff Product Designer

DialpadDenver, CO
$139,500 - $176,250Onsite

About The Position

Dialpad is seeking a Staff Product Designer to be a key design leader in shaping how AI is integrated into their platform. This role involves working at the intersection of AI and design, driving innovation in business communications. The Design team at Dialpad is at the forefront of exploring the future of the platform and has fully adopted AI into their workflow. The ideal candidate is comfortable with both design tools like Figma and technical environments like a terminal window, viewing AI as a design medium rather than just a feature. The role requires a strong portfolio demonstrating impactful, high-craft work, with evidence of an AI-native design practice within the last six months. The company emphasizes designers who raise the bar for those around them, not just their individual contributions.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of shipping high-quality product design work, with impact on platform-level or foundational design surfaces (design systems, infrastructure, AI capabilities, integrations, patterns, primitives).
  • Treated AI as a medium to design in, not a feature to add, and shaped how previous teams practiced AI.
  • Built personal AI tooling (skills, agents, micro-apps, CLI workflows) beyond chat-window prompting.
  • Shipped code into production codebases and used coded prototypes as a primary thinking and validation tool.
  • Designed patterns, components, or systems consumed by other designers and engineers at scale.
  • Driven work end-to-end autonomously, owning outcomes.
  • Pixel-level craft, noticing details others miss.
  • Strong communication across audiences, adapting altitude for team, manager, design org, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Mentored other designers and elevated the work of those around you.
  • Experience in SaaS, communications, contact centers, or real-time collaboration platforms.
  • Helped evolve or scale a design system, including tooling and adoption mechanics.
  • Contribute to the broader design community through writing, speaking, open source, or mentoring.

Nice To Haves

  • Shipped AI-native products, agentic workflows, or conversational interfaces with strong opinions on their quality.
  • Built internal tooling, prototyping infrastructure, or developer-facing design systems that were adopted by designers or engineers.
  • Maintain a personal practice (side projects, open source, writing, experiments) to advance craft.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design on foundational layers and platform-wide initiatives.
  • Partner with design, product, and engineering leadership to set direction for platform work.
  • Define patterns, primitives, and interaction models for other designers and teams.
  • Ship production code alongside engineering, contributing meaningfully to systems.
  • Build production-realistic coded prototypes with real data for engineers.
  • Design AI-first capabilities and infrastructure with a focus on trust, transparency, and user control.
  • Build personal AI tooling (skills, agents, micro-apps) to advance the team's AI practice.
  • Strengthen and evolve Dialtone, the design system, creating reusable patterns.
  • Identify cross-cutting problems and opportunities overlooked by other designers.
  • Mentor designers, provide feedback, and coach peers on craft, communication, and AI fluency.
  • Improve team shipping, communication, and collaboration processes.
  • Navigate ambiguous, complex projects autonomously while providing clear updates.
  • Think in systems to design cohesive experiences and reduce system debt.
