About The Position

Invoca is modernizing its platform for product-led growth by fundamentally rethinking how its platform feels and performs across all products, with a strong focus on stewarding a new modern design language called Rapport. Rapport is the shared foundation powering all Invoca product surfaces, acting as a living system of tokens, components, patterns, documentation, and tooling. In the AI-native era, Rapport must be machine-readable as well as human-readable, with tokens having semantic structure for AI tools and documentation serving both designers and AI coding tools. This role offers an opportunity to shape how Invoca builds coherent, intelligent, and high-quality experiences across the platform.

Requirements

  • Exceptional product designer with deep systems thinking and a strong attention to detail on visual craft.
  • Ability to see how a design decision affects an entire product ecosystem and obsess over details that make an interface feel considered.
  • Experience working on mature design systems, understanding architectural decisions and creating a coherent language.
  • Comfortable in Figma, GitHub, and engaging in design-system discussions with engineers and strategic conversations with product leadership.
  • Expert-level visual and product design craft, with a sophisticated understanding of color, typography, spacing, composition, iconography, interaction, and motion.
  • Strong visual point of view, able to articulate what good looks like and hold a high-quality bar.
  • Ability to evolve a mature design language without fragmenting it, balancing consistency with individual product team needs.
  • Ability to make complex token and architecture decisions understandable to non-specialists.
  • Interest in making design systems more machine-readable and AI-native, understanding semantic naming, token architecture, and AI tool structuring.
  • Experience as a quality bar holder for a system used by many designers, comfortable navigating disagreement and making clear decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve Invoca’s visual language, establishing system-level decisions around color, typography, spacing, iconography, motion, and interaction.
  • Own the design architecture of Rapport, evolving tokens, foundations, components, patterns, and their relationships to scale across Invoca’s product ecosystem.
  • Make consequential system decisions, defining naming conventions, semantic relationships, abstraction levels, and the balance between flexibility and constraint.
  • Establish design principles and tenets for design system usage to provide a clear framework for high-quality decisions.
  • Raise the visual quality bar across the platform, acting as a final eye for system-level visual and interaction quality.
  • Evolve Rapport for AI-native experiences, defining patterns and foundations that support intelligent, adaptive, generative, and agentic product experiences.
  • Make the system machine-readable by partnering with Design Engineering to structure tokens, patterns, documentation, and metadata for consumption by AI coding tools.
  • Partner deeply with Engineering on implementation fidelity, understanding technical realities and advocating for design intent.
  • Partner with the Head of Design and Product Designers across Invoca to help teams build effectively with Rapport, identifying friction and gaps for continuous improvement.
  • Shape design system governance, creating contribution models, review processes, and quality standards.
  • Connect the system to the broader customer experience, ensuring Rapport evolves around how customers actually experience Invoca.
  • Champion accessibility, consistency, and usability as foundational qualities of the system.
  • Influence the future of product design at Invoca by demonstrating how a modern design system can accelerate designers, engineers, and AI.
