Collaborative Boating operates Boatsetter and GetMyBoat, the two largest marketplaces for getting on the water, now converging into one platform. Guests arrive wanting something specific — a fishing trip, a sunset cruise, a birthday on a pontoon — and we connect them to the captains, operators, and owners who can make it happen. Finding and booking a day outside should be as easy and intuitive as booking a flight. The problem is that search is changing. Guests increasingly express intent in natural language, often through AI assistants instead of traditional search boxes, and on platforms we don't control. While a chatbot might seem like an obvious solution, it's not ideal for the task of comparing boats, which is a visual and parallel process. The work involves creating a visual discovery experience optimized for comparison, alongside a compact, structured expression of a listing that functions well even when rendered by third-party assistants in unfamiliar layouts. The core of this challenge lies in the search results card, which is the primary unit of persuasion. It presents a concise set of facts that guests use to decide whether to explore further. The role will focus on determining which facts are essential, their optimal order, and how this adapts to various guest intents, from specific searches like "boat rental Miami" to broader ones like "something fun for eight people Saturday." This is fundamentally an information design problem that precedes visual design. What you'll own: - The complete guest discovery experience, including search, filtering, refinement, results (map and list views), the listing page, and integration paths from organic search and AI assistants. This includes ensuring coherence across both brands and web/mobile platforms. - The information hierarchy of the results card, supported by evidence, across different guest intents and all possible data states (e.g., missing photos, no reviews, price ranges, partial availability). - Designing interfaces for a system that infers information, making the inferences legible, easy to correct, and reducing verification labor for the guest. - Shaping the structured expression of experiences, offers, and operators for surfaces we don't render, ensuring they are effective when summarized or displayed by third-party assistants. - Engaging in continuous discovery with a dedicated pod (Product Manager and engineering tech lead), prioritizing the most efficient artifacts to answer open questions and applying fidelity only when decisions are committed.
