About The Position

CVS Health Staff Pharmacists help deliver safe, compassionate pharmacy care and support the management, oversight, and daily operation of a retail pharmacy. They support the Pharmacy Manager in leading the pharmacy team and may oversee the pharmacy as the manager’s proxy during bench shifts without overlap, including assuming day-to-day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist on duty. The role includes dispensing and counseling patients, administering immunizations, supporting clinical services where permitted, ensuring prescription accuracy and regulatory compliance, maintaining inventory practices, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging team environment. The position is full-time, with regular and predictable attendance that includes nights and weekends.

Requirements

Active pharmacist license in the state where the store is located.
Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Must not be on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Ability to concentrate on tasks over time and pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
Ability to confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
Ability to provide friendly customer service, understand patient reactions, and respond appropriately.
Verbal and written communication skills, including active listening.
Ability to use mathematical reasoning for prescription quantities and days’ supply.
Ability to identify challenging interactions and choose an appropriate course of action.
Ability to meet the stated physical demands, including standing or remaining upright for extended periods, reaching, repetitive finger movements, stooping, close visual work, and lifting or exerting force as described.
Ability to accurately convey and receive detailed information through spoken communication.

Nice To Haves

1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.

Responsibilities

Help manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
Take direction from the Pharmacy Manager and oversee the pharmacy as their proxy during bench shifts without overlap.
Support pharmacy performance through effective coaching and consistent follow-up with pharmacy team members, and provide performance feedback to the Pharmacy Manager as needed.
Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day-to-day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist on duty.
Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following and directing the team to follow workflow procedures and safety guardrails.
Provide empathetic patient care, collaborate with patients’ healthcare teams, and proactively resolve insurance or medication issues.
Offer and deliver immunizations, and engage and support Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
Manage pharmacy inventory according to best practices, with particular attention to protecting cold chain products.
Partner with the Pharmacy Manager to ensure compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations and escalate concerns as needed.
Remain flexible to scheduling and business needs, contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic, and write the pharmacy schedule if directed.
Maintain clinical and technical skills through required training, continuing medical education, and other learning opportunities.
Support access to care and patient outcomes through pharmacist-delivered clinical care, including testing and prescribing services where permissible.
Comply with applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, and CVS Health policies and procedures, including requirements for controlled substances, patient privacy, and workplace safety.
Attend work regularly and predictably, including nights and weekends.
Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
