This position reports to the Pharmacy Manager and is responsible for receiving, preparing and delivery of Rx accurately and timely. Ensuring adequate inventory levels to meet patient’s needs, and counsel with appropriate documentation to all patients. Provide friendly, positive and pro-active interaction with all internal and external customers as well create awareness and educate customers through public relations. NOTE: This is an opportunity at our new and upcoming store in Buffalo Run.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy and a Class A Pharmacists license is a must.
  • Superior customer relations skills and a strong sense of professionalism.
  • Excellent leadership and performance management skills required.
  • Proven ability to build the business using community-based marketing strategies, with an emphasis on culturally appropriate engagement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Indigenous communities and individuals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including experience formulating and executing action plans.
  • Strong personal computing skills, as well as knowledge of Healthwatch Pharmacy Computer system is a definite asset.
  • Demonstrated healthcare experience working directly with Indigenous patients and communities, including a proven ability to engage respectfully and collaborate with Indigenous Elders, traditional teachers, and Knowledge Keepers.
  • Deep understanding of local First Nations communities and Indigenous-serving organizations, encompassing Indigenous wellness frameworks, history, cultural knowledge, the impacts of intergenerational trauma, and the effects of settler colonialism and systemic racism on health disparities. This includes knowledge of current healthcare system gaps and barriers for Indigenous individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally safe, client-focused care with a deep understanding of cultural humility and anti-racism practices (Indigenous Cultural Safety training highly valued). A clear commitment to identifying, challenging, and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism, advocating for access, rights, and self-determination, and knowledge of relevant legislative obligations (e.g., TRC Calls to Action, UNDRIP).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, dispense, and control medications accurately and timely to patients, ensuring adherence to professional standards and culturally sensitive practices.
  • Ensure medication and over-the-counter supplements inventory levels are adequate to meet patients’ needs, with consideration for community-specific health trends and traditional practices.
  • Provide patient-centred counseling regarding new and additional medications in a friendly, positive, and proactive interaction, demonstrating deep sensitivity to indigenous cultures, preferences, and ways of knowing and healing.
  • Create awareness and educate customers through public relations (public health days, clinics, etc.), actively engaging with the Indigenous community in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Provide timely and positive resolution to patient’s needs and Doctor’s requests/issues, proactively advocating for access, rights, and Cultural Safety within the healthcare system.
  • Provide ongoing training for all new and existing Pharmacy colleagues (technicians, interns, students, IPG’s), actively incorporating principles of Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility into all aspects of work, fostering an environment where Indigenous patients feel respected, valued, and understood.
  • Review and control costs at all levels within Loblaw Pharmacy (dispensary).
  • Collaborate with Indigenous Elders, traditional teachers, and/or Knowledge Keepers to develop relationships based on mutual respect, and apply Indigenous traditions to establish working relationships with various community agencies.
  • Foster trust through respectful communication, active listening, and honouring the perspectives on health and wellness of equity-deserving people, ensuring care plans are culturally relevant and holistic.
  • Demonstrate leadership in breaking down barriers and challenging Indigenous-specific racism and broader systemic racism within the colonial health care structure, ensuring an environment of belonging for all.
