About The Position

This role involves providing comprehensive eye care, including routine vision examinations, screenings, interpretation of diagnostic tests, treatment and management of ocular diseases, and contact lens fitting for a diverse patient population. The Staff Optometrist will maintain complete and accurate patient records using an electronic health record system, adhering to coding and billing guidelines. This position also assists in the development and implementation of department clinical policies and procedures, and monitors and assists with the training of support staff such as Optometric Technicians and Opticians.

Requirements

  • O.D. degree from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed to practice optometry in the State of Michigan.
  • Active DPA and TPA certifications.
  • Knowledge of current practice patterns and ability to independently practice within current standards of care.
  • Ability to make appropriate referral for care of services when needed.
  • Clear and professional communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Accept and utilize criticism when given.
  • Organizational and technical skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills to work with patients, peers, support staff, and clinical leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Diplomate of American Board of Optometry, fellowship, and/or residency certification.
  • Experience working within FQHC setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive eye care, including routine vision examinations and screenings, interpretation of diagnostic tests, treatment/management of ocular disease, and fitting of contact lenses.
  • Maintain complete and accurate patient records utilizing an electronic health record system and complete charts in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to coding and billing guidelines and regulations.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of department clinical policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Monitor and assist with the development and training of essential support staff such as Optometric Technicians and Opticians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Vision Services.
  • Attend department and company meetings as necessary.
