About The Position

The Optometrist conducts eye exams for Acuity Eyecare Group and strives to practice to the full capacity of their license. The role supports practice growth by building patient relationships and educating patients about eyecare. The Optometrist evaluates and diagnoses vision and eye-health concerns, recommends and provides appropriate care, and communicates treatment and lens recommendations to patients and support staff.

Requirements

Doctorate of Optometry from a credentialed institution.
Must have passed all optometric state boards.

Responsibilities

Conduct eye exams and perform vision tests, analyzing the results.
Build long-term patient relationships through proper patient care and education.
Interview patients verbally before examinations to determine health and ocular history, medical issues, reasons for the visit, and visual wants and needs.
Instruct, recommend, and advise patients on options for addressing refractive errors, systemic and ocular disease, and visual needs; recap the discussion when handing the patient off to support staff.
Generate patient loyalty and promote the profession of optometry and Acuity Eyecare Group values.
Diagnose vision problems, such as nearsightedness and farsightedness, and eye diseases.
Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and medications.
Recommend or provide treatments such as vision therapy or low-vision rehabilitation, as applicable to the brand.
Provide pre- and postoperative care to patients undergoing eye surgery, such as examining patients the day after cataract or refractive surgery.
Evaluate patients for diseases such as diabetes and refer them to other healthcare providers within the appropriate timeframe.
Counsel patients on eye health, including contact lens cleaning and wear and how often to have eye examinations.
Clearly communicate recommendations to opticians and other sales staff regarding suitable lenses, including available coatings and designs.
