About The Position

This position involves providing direct patient care within a residential unit, focusing on adult psychiatric patients. The role requires comprehensive assessment, care planning, and the implementation of nursing interventions. The Staff Nurse will also function as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team, contributing to hospital operations and performance improvement initiatives. Responsibilities include medication administration, patient and family education, discharge planning, and ensuring a safe patient environment.

Requirements

  • BSN required.
  • Current license to practice as an RN in the state of Texas.
  • Two years of experience in psychiatric nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Sets appropriate goals for patients, including physical, psychological, social, and continuing care needs, and evaluates nursing actions to meet those goals.
  • Demonstrates effective bio-psycho-social assessment skills.
  • Develops comprehensive nursing care plans based on nursing diagnosis and standards of care.
  • Effectively utilizes the nursing process in directing and providing patient care.
  • Modifies the plan of care based on ongoing patient assessment.
  • Ensures effective health teaching for patients and families.
  • Ensures comprehensive discharge planning relative to nursing care needs.
  • Observes, documents, and communicates patient responses and the effectiveness of nursing intervention and medication.
  • Ensures safety by making patient and safety rounds according to policy, regularly assessing physical environments, and following up on identified concerns.
  • Seeks constructive feedback from co-workers regarding performance, interpersonal relations, nursing skills, and abilities.
  • Supports and encourages a constructive working relationship with program and other disciplines/departments.
  • Responds to patients, staff, and visitors in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and behavior appropriate to the hospital setting.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Relieves the charge nurse in their absence as assigned.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medication action, mode of administration, side effects, and contraindications.
  • Provides safe and timely administration of medication and prescribed treatments, ensuring prompt reporting of all errors.
  • Effectively engages patients in full participation of the treatment program.
  • Seeks opportunities to participate in hospital committees, performance improvement initiatives, and activities.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of students and new staff.
